OurNew Year's Advice:
As you evaluate your marketing goals and prepare for the coming year, we encourage you to put some of 2012's biggest trends on your radar and keep the following in mind:
- 2011 saw a 400 percent increase in the number of mobile searches, with 74 percent of people using their mobile phones to search while running errands. Smartphone consumption will only increase and the importance of mobile marketing, a mobile friendly website and mobile friendly content will be critical.
- Social Media will continue to collide with other platforms and integrate with businesses. In a joint study from Booz Allen and Buddy Media, 57 percent of businesses surveyed plan to increase social media spending, while 38 percent of CEO's label social as a high priority. In 2012, look for even more social applications, social TV convergence, digital influencers, social commerce and social sharing options.
- In 2012, online reviews will be an increasingly important part of social media and local search in a changing environment. According to a recent study from NM Incite, 63 percent of social media users list "consumer ratings" as their preferred source for getting information about a business, product or service. Likewise, 32 percent of all searchers expect to find ratings and review information.
